Commissioning a Piece
Most of my work is on commission which is always satisfying experience both for me and the person who commissioned the piece. The result is always a unique and memorable piece that includes a particular memory or message provided by the customer.
It may take more effort, more planning and perhaps cost a little more than a standard mass produced item but it will be special.
The commissioning process usually takes place over a number of months and usually follows these stages:
1 Client decides on general objectives based on available images of previous commissions or a theme from nature and importantly how much they wish to spend on the commission
2 We contact the client by email, telephone or in person to determine their detail requirements. This will include essential details such as ring size or specific gem colour. In the case of enamels this may be a theme or special memory.
3 We provide hand-drawn sketches of one or more designs for client evaluation. There is a charge for this service of between £ 50 and £100 but these charges will be deducted if the commission is completed. Please note that all of our designs will remain the property of Michael Kersley Jewellery.
4 The hand making will commence as soon as the client confirms the order for the chosen piece. A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total price will be requested at this point to cover the cost of materials specifically purchased for the commission. This stage normally takes between 4 and 6 weeks depending on the complexity and the uniqueness of the materials.
5 When the work is finally completed we will contact you to arrange collection of secure insured delivery. Please be aware that we a very proud of the quality standards we strive to maintain and in the event of any customer dissatisfaction we will work with the customer until a satisfactory outcome is achieved.
